Jon O Athletic Director

A Letter from Our Athletic Director- Mr. Jon Oliveros

I count it a privilege to be your school’s athletic director this year and am looking forward to a great year beginning with our fall sports program of volleyball and cross country then basketball starts during the winter along with curling. Then we wrap up the year with badminton and track and field.

Our desire and goal in Cornerstone to use athletics as a tool to grow and develop Christian character qualities in our students.  We hope to instill teamwork, goal setting, and wise stewardship of each athlete’s gifts and talents to honor God.

Just a few things to highlight this school year regarding our athletics program:

  • All student-athletes are provided with game uniforms (some are bought to keep – will be determined based on the sport) and some team equipment. Game uniforms should be returned and washed after the end of the season. After the season, any game uniforms or borrowed equipment that is not returned will be charged to the student’s account at the replacement price. Please help us make sure your child returns all of his uniforms and equipment after each season.
  • Athletes are recommended to wear proper footwear and personal protective equipment for the sport they intend to play.
    • Volleyball & Basketball: indoor shoes with good ankle support
    • Cross Country: quality running shoes
    • Curling: inserts & brushes are provided at the facilities
    • Badminton: protective equipment and rackets are provided but personal equipment are recommended.
    • Track & Field: some equipment is provided based on their event(s).
  • Participation in some events (ie. tournaments) will incur additional costs. High school athletes (and some elementary) will need to cover items such as tournament fees and overnight accommodation. We will provide more information as these trips are scheduled.
  • 24-Hour Rule: if any parent/guardian have any issues about participation of their athlete, we ask that you wait 24 hours. Whether the issue is labelled as coaching error, teammate interference, parent conflict or any other of several possible situations, it is very important that all parties involved take the full 24 hours to remove or decrease the emotional element so that the actual issue can be resolved quickly, in a civilized manner, and to everyone's satisfaction.

To assist with this, we are implementing the following lines of communication:

Parent/Guardian -Athletic director - Coach(es)

I’m excited to work with our team in the athletics department, from the court to the field. We have passionate coaches who care about your athletes and our program.  You are our CCS family, and we appreciate you all!

Take care and Go Falcons!
